Aliquippa, PA - Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)

I attended Penn State from 1964-1969.  I studied architecture and later became a city planner in Pittsburgh.

When I got to State College, a local chapter of SDS was forming.  I was right there to sign up and wanted to do whatever I could to turn America against this war.  As far as anti-war activity, we did what we could.  We marched the streets.  We made our signs.  We made noise.  We engaged in debate wherever we could find a forum to debate.  I, myself, participated in the national march on Washington which was a fantastic event.  So many people went down there, and to this day, I think that march helped.  It helped end the war.  It sent a message to Washington that the people didn't want this war.

I wrote this song to tell the story of the Vietnamese children that were napalmed.

She Came Running

By Howard Davidson

She came running to us

From a jungle path

Her whole world turned to trash

She came running to us

She was running from the gods

Who turned the sky to fire

And the earth to blood

She came running to us

She was cryin’ out loud to people over here in another world

How was she to know that people over here in another world

Didn’t care

Oh she just didn’t know

She came running to us

From the desert sands

For a helping hand

She came running to us

She was running from the gods

Who spoke with bombs

And took her mother’s arms

She came running to us

She was cryin' out loud to people over here in another world

How was she to know that people over here in another world

Didn't care

Oh she just didn't know

She came running to us

Out of Africa

10,000 miles away

She came running to us

She was running from the gods

Who turned the sky to fire

And the earth to blood

She came running to us

She was cryin’ out loud to people over here in another world

How was she to know that people over here in another world

Didn’t care

Oh she just didn’t know

And after the camera clicked she came runnin’ to us

Oh she just didn’t know that no one cared

She came runnin’ to us
